Home Tutoring
Home tutoring is a form of tuition for children that takes place out of school in your home. Parents may pay for tutoring here or it may be paid for by the State. Home tutoring can be used to:
- Educate children who cannot attend school for some reason or another. In some cases here the tutoring will be funded by the Local Education Authority.
- Help children boost the learning that they get from school (i.e. if they need extra help in certain areas or need help to prepare for exams and so on). Parents will generally pay for this tuition and it will be given after school or at weekends either at the child's home or, more rarely, at the tutor's home.
If you are looking for private home tutoring then you will need to find a tutor who can help your child with their specific needs. You may find a tutor via recommendation from your school, by word of mouth recommendations from friends and acquaintances or by looking for adverts and listings in local directories.
It is important, when choosing a tutor for children, to check that they have had a CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) check done on them. Teachers and people that work in schools or with children regularly should have a more comprehensive CRB check which is known as an enhanced disclosure.
If your child is being tutored at home because they cannot attend regular school then the tutor will generally be provided by the Local Education Authority. You will be expected to make sure that your child completes any work that the tutor sets during their sessions.
